Get a verification code and sign in with two-factor authentication
User Guide / Security matters / Get a verification code and sign in with two-factor authenticationAfter enabling two-factor authentication, you will need to enter a verification code to log in to your e-Cont.md account on a new device or browser.
Every time you log in to your e-Cont.md account on a new device or browser, you will need to verify your identity using your password and a six-digit verification code. There are several ways to obtain a verification code. You can use the code displayed on a trusted device using Google Authenticator, or request a text message or phone call.
Using the code displayed on a trusted device
When you log in, the verification code is automatically displayed on your trusted devices using Google Authenticator.
- Log in to your e-Cont.md account on a new device or in a browser.
- Check the login notification on any of your trusted devices.
- Click "Allow" to receive a verification code.
- Enter the verification code on another device to complete login.
A device with Google Authenticator installed and configured for e-Cont.md is required to display verification codes.
Receive an SMS or phone call
If you don't have a trusted device handy, you can request that the verification code be sent to a trusted phone number via text message or phone call.
- Click "Didn't receive the code?" or "No access to devices?" on the verification code screen.
- Choose to send the code to a trusted phone number.
- You will receive a text message or call from e-Cont.md with the verification code. If you use "Unknown senders" filtering for SMS in the Messages app, your verification code may be there.
- Enter the code on the device you signed in from to complete the sign-in process.
When checking "Unknown senders," you may still receive urgent messages, such as verification codes from e-Cont.md, in your Messages folder. Go to "Settings > Messages," then scroll to the "Unknown senders" section and tap "Allow notifications." Then, turn on notifications for urgent messages.
Receiving a Text Message via Email
You can request that a verification code be sent to your trusted email address as a text message with a verification code.
If you don't have access to your trusted devices or phone numbers
If you temporarily don't have access to your trusted devices or phone number, the fastest way to access your account is to wait a few days until your devices or phone become available. Then you can sign in using two-factor authentication. After that, you can also add additional trusted phone numbers to your account in the future.
If you permanently lost access to your trusted devices and phone number, you can still try to regain access to your account.
- Try logging in to your e-Cont.md account.
- Click "Didn't receive a code?" or "Don't have access to your devices?" on the verification code screen.
- Select "Can't use a device or phone number."
- If you don't have access to any of the trusted phone numbers listed in your e-Cont.md account, you can begin the account recovery process. Follow the on-screen instructions.
Account recovery may take several days. This waiting time depends on the information you can provide for identity verification.
