Trusted devices and phone numbers

User Guide / Security matters / Trusted devices and phone numbers

With two-factor authentication, a trusted phone number or trusted device helps verify your identity when you sign in to a new device or browser.

What is a trusted phone number?

To use two-factor authentication, you'll need to have at least one trusted phone number in e-Cont.md to receive verification codes. If you have multiple numbers, use the one you use less frequently as your secondary trusted number. If your phone is lost or damaged and is the only trusted device with access to your trusted phone number, you won't be able to receive the verification codes needed to access your account.

Add or change your trusted phone numbers

In your personal account (https://my.e-cont.md/en/login), select "Login and Security" > "Account Security."

In the "Trusted Phone Numbers" section, you can add and remove phone numbers. When adding new numbers, a standard phone number verification will be performed using six-digit verification codes. Once verified, the phone number will be assigned "Trusted" status.

What is a trusted device?

A trusted device is one that's already signed into your account using two-factor authentication. We know this device is yours, so it can be used to verify your identity and perform the following actions:

  • Display a verification code from e-Cont.md when you sign in to your account on another device or in a browser;
  • Make critical changes to your account, such as changing your password or other security settings.

When you add a new device to your account, there may be a short period of time before you can use it to change critical account information. You can use another trusted device to update your account information during this time.

We recommend protecting your device with a passcode (or a password for signing in on a computer or other device), and Google Authenticator if your device supports these features.

If you don’t have access to your trusted devices or trusted phone numbers

If you temporarily lose access to your trusted devices or trusted phone number, the fastest way to regain access to your account is to wait a few days until your devices or phone become available. Then you can sign in using two-factor authentication. You can also add additional trusted phone numbers to your account for the future.

If you've permanently lost access to your trusted devices or phone number, you can still regain access to your account.

  1. Try signing in to your e-Cont.md account.
  2. Tap "Didn't receive a code?" or "Don't have access to your devices?" on the verification code screen.
  3. Select "Can't use the device or phone number."
  4. If you don't have access to any of the trusted phone numbers listed in your e-Cont.md account, you can begin the account recovery process. Follow the on-screen instructions.

It may take several days for your account to be recovered. This waiting time depends on the information you can provide for identity verification.
